Project Outputs

The outputs of the project are structured according to the facilities planned for the SEZ, including the associated facilities namely Jinja Institute of Technology, Kimaka Regional Airport, a Mini Biotech Park at Entebbe airport, and hovercraft transport facility on Lake Victoria.

Therefore the following will be the composite product of LAVIT

• Built up space for "Plug and Play"
• Dedicated campuses
• Industrial space for the Biotech plant.
• Exports of IT and Biotech products
• Skilled Software Technology Innovation and Biotech professionals
• Social infrastructure needed to support the community of the SEZ namely: hospital services; schools; residences; shopping, leisure parks; roads, airport and water boats for SEZ transport

The composite product will therefore be produced from a complex of infrastructure development described below.

Industrial Infrastructure

One million square metres of industrial space will be made available for industrial based activity. An industrial complex will provide the necessary services also catering for a Build Own Operate (BOO) arrangement where funding from reputable financial institutions with local and international presence is availed.

Biotech and Information Technology Products

Biotechnology is the application of engineering concepts to biological processes, and the common classification of bioindustry firm products is under the following five headings based on their end markets:

• Therapeutics
• Diagnostics
• Agricultural
• Bioremediation and new high technology applications
• Bioindustry suppliers
